A lot of people wish they could be a billionaire. In cryptocurrency, the risky, highly volatile market can make it a bit more difficult for people to reach the goal of billions. Alas, however, some people managed to invest and profit and, in turn, become known as ‘crypto-billionaires’!

Recently, Forbes Magazine has released their list of the first-ever richest people of the crypto world, where most, if not all, of the people listed are either founders and/or CEOs of their own respective companies! Let’s take a look at five of the most recognizable bitcoin billionaires to date:

1. Matthew Mellon;

Crypto net worth: $900 Million- $1 Billion

Born in New York City, he was an American businessman and former chairman of the New York Republican State’s finance committee. He was also the heir to the Mellon banking fortune who invested early in Ripple’s XRP, spending some $2 million to acquire points. His XRP is worth around $1 billion.

Unfortunately, tragedy befell on the Mellon family as Matthew Mellon passed away last April 16, 2018 in Cancun, Mexico, where he was due to check himself in a drug rehabilitation center.

2. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss;

Crypto net worth: $900 Million- $1.1 Billion each

These twin brothers are famous for winning a settlement lawsuit against Facebook in 2011. The said money won after the settlement reached was then used to purchase $11 million worth of bitcoins in 2013. The twins filed to a bitcoin-based, exchange-traded fund called Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust in 2013, but was ultimately denied in March 2017. The brothers are also known for establishing Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange in 2015 where investors can buy and sell digital currencies.

3. Changpeng Zhao;

Crypto net worth: $1.1 Billion- $2 Billion

He is best known as the CEO of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange! Born in China, his parents were both educators. He sold his house in 2014, doesn’t own any cars, and only indulges in mobile phones.

From flipping burgers and working late nights as a manager of a local gas station, it’s safe to say that this man has come a long way! He now has $1.1 billion to $2 billion in crypto investments, all thanks to CZ’s own work ethic since seven months ago, Binance literally didn’t exist.

4. Joseph Lubin;

Crypto net worth: $1 billion- $2 billion

This 53-year-old Canadian entrepreneur is best known for being the cofounder of Ethereum, a blockchain-based computing platform. Some also say that he may be the single-largest holder of Ether, with the value as high as $10 billion.

Lubin was also involved in the creation of the Ethereum foundation, a Toronto-based non-profit organization. In 2015, he founded ConsenSys, a Brooklyn-based software-production studio. This builds, consults, and launches decentralized applications using Ethereum.

5. Chris Larsen;

Crypto net worth: $7.5 billion- $8 billion

An entrepreneur himself, Larsen co-founded the online mortgage lender e-Loan, and eight years later, Prosper, the P2P lender that has been valued at more than $1 billion. With a net worth like that in the crypto world, Chris Larsen can easily be the richest man in crypto. His fortune is primarily in 5.2 billion XRP, the token launched by Ripple.

With these 5 in mind, investing in crypto can have just as much potential to bring you to the billionaires club! If you wish for a more visual presentation of this topic, be sure to check out our video of “5 People Who Became Bitcoin Billionaires” by clicking the link below!
