Celebrities That Use Bitcoin

Bitcoin has been a part of our world since 2008 and we’ve experienced its boom in popularity when it reached its all time-high of around $20,000 per 1 BTC in December 2017. This made us all curious about its potential, and the possibility, if we should buy some ourselves. In some cases, others have already bought some and stepped onto the bitcoin roller coaster. Today, we’ll be taking a look at some celebrities that have invested in Bitcoin, and what they think about it.

Ashton Kutcher

The well known actor Ashton Kutcher found his way into our hearts when he first gained his popularity in the hit tv series That 70’s Show. If you haven’t seen that, you’ll see him when you water the later seasons of Two and A Half Men (when he replaced Charlie Sheen) or in movies like The Butterfly Effect, No Strings Attached,, or What Happens in Vegas. A little less known fact about the actor is that he is also the co-founder of venture fund A-Grade Investments, who have invested in BitPay, the payment processor that allows merchants to accept bitcoin payments. In 2013, he told TechCrunchDisruptNY “The bigger thing with bitcoin is: what can that decentralized technology do? […] The notion that we could civically monitor each other in an anonymous way actually keeps the anonymity of the Internet, we don’t have to worry about Big Brother and that same infrastructure that built out bitcoin could be used in the security industry for mass good.”

50-Cent

50-Cent – aka Curtis Jackson – is an award-winning American rapper with big hits such as In Da Club and Candy Shop. 50-Cent made his belief in Bitcoin known to the world when he came out with his album Animal Ambition in 2014, which means he’s been into Bitcoin for a while now, and accepted payment Bitcoin as payment way back. His Shopify store partnered with payment processor BitPay to make the transactions. TMZ reported that he was able to collect 700 bitcoins from that sale. He then forgot that he accepted payments in bitcoin and let his account lie unused for years. At the time, a single bitcoin was only worth $662. An article came out about this on January 2018 saying that he found out about his bitcoin and that he cashed out. Headlines reported that he made 7 to 8.5 billion USD. Imagine making that kind of money “accidentally”? Must have been the easiest money he ever made!

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson, if you don’t know him, is a former American professional boxer. His many life accolades include reigning as the undisputed heavyweight champion, the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title, and… launching a bitcoin app alongside his already pre-existing ATMs. A pretty far stretch huh? Mike Tyson’s bitcoin company, called Mike Tyson Bitcoin, formally debuted its bitcoin wallets in 2016. Although that they are currently not popular, the company proves Tyson’s believe in Bitcoin. He also once said that “In a few years from now Bitcoin and other digital currency are going to be a normal party of our monetary systems,”.

Those are just a few celebrities that believe in the power of Bitcoin. Others such as Jaime Foxx, DJ Khaled, Snoop Dogg, and even Donald Glover have publicly stated their belief in the crypto.
